    Larry Yount

Larry Yount, who came so very close to making it to the big leagues, graduated from Taft High School. Yount was a fifth round draft pick in the 1968 MLB draft by the Houston Astros. He was supposed to appear in a major league game in 1971, but was hurt during warm-ups, and never actually got in the game. Yount, who is 60, retired from baseball in 1976 and is now a successful real estate developer in Arizona. Baseball runs in the family—more on Yount’s brother and son in future Gazettes.
